Matassa

Tom Lubbe was born in South Africa and grew up in New Zealand. Though Domaine Matassa is located in Roussillon and known for its extreme heat, this was intended from the start as he wanted to work in a hot climate to also represent his roots & experience in South Africa.

Established in 2003, Domaine Matassa comprises a 20-hectare vineyard with a range of soil types including lime, clay, schist and marl. Working primarily with traditional Catalan grape varieties such as Carignan, Mourvèdre, Grenache, Grenache Gris, Muscat d'Alexandrie, and Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains, these grapes are often co-planted in the vineyards, with a majority of them being 50-120 years old.
